Optoma 4K400STX 4K UHD Short Throw Projector

General Description

The Optoma 4K400STX is a short-throw laser projector designed for golf simulation environments. It features a native 16:9 UHD resolution (3840x2160) and supports a 4:3 aspect ratio, making it compatible with square or rectangular simulator enclosures.

Equipped with a 0.5:1 short-throw lens, the unit projects large images from a short distance, allowing placement that keeps the player out of the light path to prevent shadows during a swing. For installation flexibility, the projector includes horizontal and vertical keystone correction along with four-corner image adjustment.

Computer & System Requirements

Running simulation software in true 4K resolution requires a high-performance computer to prevent image downscaling, choppy frame rates, or input lag.

  • Recommended Graphics Cards (GPU): NVIDIA RTX 3070, RTX 3080, or any RTX 40-Series card (4070, 4080, 4090).

  • Performance Standard: These specifications ensure the software runs at 60+ FPS, allowing the projector to utilize its 4.2ms input lag for real-time ball flight tracking.

1. What is Aspect Ratio, and why does it matter?

Aspect Ratio is the relationship between the width and height of your image.

  • 4:3 Ratio: Produces a more "square" image. Best for rooms with high ceilings but limited width. To find your width, multiply your screen height by 1.25.
  • 16:9 Ratio: The standard "Widescreen" look (HDTV). Best for wider enclosures like the Guardian Bay™ Commercial size. To find your width, multiply height by 1.78.
  • 16:10 Ratio: A professional compromise often used in high-end simulators. Multiply height by 1.60.

How far away from the screen should my projector be?

Each projector has a specific throw ratio, which is an expression of image width divided by distance from the screen. For example a projector with a 0.5 throw ratio can produce a 10ft wide image from 5 feet. For Golf simulation we recommend short throw projectors with a throw ratio of 0.5 to 0.7 as they place the projector close enough to the screen so that the golfer will not block the image.

Throw distance from the screen can be calculated for other projectors using online projector throw calculators for your projector model.

How can I protect my projector from golf balls, club strikes, or other hits?

The Projector Shield from Turnkey Pro Studio is designed to do just that! Optic Cage™ Projector Floor Enclosure Isolates and Protects Your Golf Simulator Projector from Getting Hit by Golf Balls or Clubs. Check it out here:

You can find it in Frameworks under Simulator Accesories menu.

Pro Tip: For the sharpest image, always match your PC software settings (GSPro, Uneekor, etc.) to your projector's native resolution.
